Born as Pawan Kumar Jain on 26 June 1967 in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, Muni Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj became popular through his sermon on GTV initiated through program called "Mahavira Vani". He traveled a lot and spread the message of Jainism to many parts of the country. In 2000, he gave an address from the Red Fort, Delhi. In 2006 he took part in Mastak Abhisheka celebrations at Shravanabelagola. With times he established himself as one of the "progressive Jain monk" for his criticism of violence, corruption and conservatism. He started a movement called Ahimsa Mahakumbh to stop export of meat and leather from India. He also opposed the Rajasthan High Court's order to impose ban on Sallekhana.The lectures of Muni Tarun Sagar Ji have been compiled and published in book series also titled Kadve Pravachan.
He attended RSS Vijaya Dashami function in Nagpur in September 2009. In 2010 he delivered his sermons in Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He also addressed Haryana Legislative Assembly in 2016. Unlike most other Digambar jain monks, his audience often includes a majority of non-Jains. He was widely respected by both political and Bollywood personalities and had a large following.
